The SkyWrap system is a durable and completely safe network densification system using existing power infrastructure, manufactured by AFL since 1982. The densification of fibres in given sections of the network is carried out using dedicated equipment and by qualified installers.

Network densification systems – comparison of solutions

Wrapping and suspension systems are divided into Wrap, Lash and Clip depending on the way in which the additional fibre optic cables are installed. Lash and Clip systems, unlike the Wrap system, were designed and implemented based on the assumption of a temporary increase in available optical fibres in order to replace them with the default system after 2-3 years.

Resistance to adverse weather conditions and a declaration of a 30-year service life guarantee a major reduction in costs caused by network repairs. The system is safe and can be installed on all networks up to 300kW. The winding of the fibre optic cable on the existing overhead infrastructure takes place under controlled tension using specialised equipment. Without welding it is possible to install a cable of up to 4 km. The cables have a diameter of 6-92 mm and are lightweight – they do not burden the host network. We currently offer 4 types of cables wound using the SkyWrap system, containing up to 144 optical fibres. Thanks to the technology of fixing only in two places (at the beginning and the end) the cable can work freely, depending on the current weather conditions.

The implementation of SkyWrap begins with a site visit where our technicians obtain the parameters and then the calculations necessary for the selection of the cable. We supply you with a dedicated cable along with a qualified engineer and equipment.

Why SkyWrap?

The SkyWrap system is not designed for mass use. It generates less load, which works well in difficult weather conditions (especially in winter). The costs connected with the installation of a new cable using SkyWrap technology are much lower than the replacement of the existing pole foundation with a new one or the replacement of functioning OPGW cables. Using this system significantly increases network capacity. The uniqueness of the SkyWrap system installation method works even in difficult terrain (e.g. mountains) due to the possibility of radio communication with the device.
